About Fanny Jacob

Hello and welcome

My name is Fanny Jacob and I'm a textile artist living and working in rural Suffolk. Born in London, I initially trained as a State Registered Nurse at St Bartholomew's Hospital before moving to the London College of Fashion where I studied pattern cutting and knitwear design. Marriage and children followed and once my children were older I returned to study textiles at Morley College. I now enjoy working from my studio on the beautiful Wilford Peninsula on the Suffolk Coast, where I live with my husband and two Dachsunds Boris and Basil, designing and creating unique pieces to wear and for the home. I also volunteer in a Suffolk prison teaching art and craft.

My Inspiration

I take inspiration from my surroundings and like to use natural, quality materials such as cashmere and merino wool. I have a love for traditional British knitwear and spend a lot of time researching and experimenting with patterns and colours. The results are often unusual and eclectic and often it is the more unusual designs that prove the more popular.

My Vision

I passionately believe that crafting in all its forms can be a powerful therapy for many.  I have invested a lot of time in an attempt to bring this philosophy to the residents of our local prison who I feel can benefit greatly from this creative approach. My ultimate goal is to co-ordinate workshops teaching skills such as sewing, tailoring and upholstery which I hope will lead to post-sentence employment for those who take part.
